  13. I have installed the new web2c-6.0 on a RS6000 and it went well except for
  14. two problems. I have found ad-hoc solutions for one problem,
  15. I have no solution yet for the second one (kpathsea/MakeTeKPK).
  16. Here are the steps I followed.
  17.  
  18. STEP 1 - Download {lib,web,web2c,src,dvipsk,xdvik}.tar.gz from ftp.cs.umb.edu.
  19.  
  20. STEP 2 - Uncompress and move the subdirectories dvipsk-5.526a/dvipsk
  21.          and xdvik-1.5/xdvik into web2c-6.0.
  22.  
  23. STEP 3 - I accept your new path structure so I change nothing.

  27. PROBLEM 1
  28.          Then I get the following error when compiling both MF... and xdvi.
  29.          I have solved the problem in web2c-6.0/web2c/mf/MFwindow by changing
  30.          the symbolic link x11.c from x11-Xt.c to x11-Xlib.c.
  31.          
  32.            I have solved the problem with xdvi by setting -DNOTOOL in the 
  33.          makefile and commenting out "#include <Xos.h>" in the source.

  56. STEP 4 - make install  works fine

  58. STEP 5 - Tests. I compile Gentle.tex without problems.
  59.          dvips works but shows an inconsistent behavior when naming one
  60.          pk file. I have run the next example with an older version
  61.          of TeX and met no problem. However
  62.          the new version insists on calling MakeTeXPK for a 328 font,
  63.          but then writes the file as cmr10.329pk.
  64.          If called a second time, dvips looks for the same font as cmr10.328pk.
  65.          At this point only cmr10.329pk exists.  "kpathsea" solves
  66.          this problem by interpolating 329 to 328!

  128. STEP 6 - I am now writing you this report. I will try to install the new
  129. dvipsk on my Linux and see if I get the same problem.

  131. I have successfully installed the prior release of web2c on a HP700
  132.  and on Linux. I appreciate your efforts to work out the path problem.
  133. I find TeX, Web2C and friends to be quite marvelous things.
